Simon Holywell: Idiorm and Paris 1.3.0 released - the minimalist ORM and fluent query builder for PH
by Chris Cornutt February 27, 2013 @ 10:33:33
Simon Holywell has a new post to his site about a project that aims to be a minimalist ORM library and make it easier to built queries on the fly for your applications (and is installable via Composer) - the Idorm + Paris combination.
Idiorm is a PHP ORM that eschews complexity and deliberately remains lightweight with support for PHP5.2+. [...] However, having said this, Idiorm is very powerful and it makes most of the queries PHP applications require pain free. Some of these features include fluent query building, multiple connection support and result sets for easy record manipulation. Paris sits on top of Idiorm to provide a simplified active record implementation based upon the same minimalist philosophy.
He includes examples in the post of both queries with Idiorm - simple things like creating and finding records - and using Paris to make models out of PHP objects. He also talks some about the current state of the project, recent advancements and some of the things they're looking to do with it in the future (including dropping PHP 5.2 support and use late static binding).

Symfony Blog: Symfony Live Paris 2012 The Schedule
by Chris Cornutt April 11, 2012 @ 10:17:37
In this new post to the Symfony blog Fabien Potencier talks about the schedule for this year's Symfony Live event happening in Paris (June 6th-9th).
With more than 130 talk submissions, we had a hard time putting together what we think is a great schedule for Symfony Live Paris 2012. This year, we will have three parallel tracks with many great talks and great speakers. We will have many Symfony talks based on real-life experience: learn new tricks about Security and Assetic from Kris Wallsmith, and let Richard Miller teach you tips on how to use the Service Container.
Sessions at this year's event include:
- Designing HTTP Interfaces and RESTful Web (David Zuelke)
- Behat by example (Behat best practices) (Konstantin Kudryashov)
- Security: In Real Life (Kris Wallsmith)
- How we built the new responsive BBC News site (John Cleveley)
- There is a Bundle for that (Christophe Coevoet)
- Advanced Silex (Igor Wiedler)

NetTuts.com: Rapid Application Prototyping in PHP Using a Micro Framework
by Chris Cornutt September 06, 2011 @ 09:56:57
On NetTuts.com today there's a new tutorial posted about using a microframework for prototyping an application you may not need a full stack framework to get running. Their examples are based on the Slim framework.
Let's face it: we all have great ideas for a web application. Whether you write them down on paper or remember them using your eidetic memory, there comes a point when you want test whether or not your idea is really viable. In this tutorial, we'll use a micro framework, a templating language and an ORM to rapidly develop an application prototype.
There's an introduction to help you get Slim, some extras, Twig templating and Paris and Idorm set up and working happily together. There's code included for bootstrapping the application, creating a few routes, building models and using them to pull data from the database. They also create an "admin" area for their sample blog application, building an "add article" form and protecting it with a simple login system. You can download the source if you'd like to see it all working together.

Symfony Blog: Symfony Live 2011 Paris Videos
by Chris Cornutt March 16, 2011 @ 11:07:34
If you weren't able to make it to the Symfony Live Paris event, you're in luck - they've just posted the videos from the sessions presented in the main room of the conference (including keynotes).
The 2011 edition of the Symfony Live conference in Paris was a blast. With 540 attendees, this was the biggest Symfony conference ever. [...] This year, we also had a video team in the main room which recorded all the sessions. So, thanks to Brainsonic, I'm really happy to announce to all the people who missed the conference that all sessions from the main room are now available online.
Included in the list of videos are sessions like:

Liip Blog: Recap Symfony Live Conference in Paris
by Chris Cornutt March 08, 2011 @ 08:36:58
On the Liip blog today there's a write up from David Buchmann about the just-passed Symfony Live conference that happened in Paris. his recap covers some of the high points of the event including sessions from the Liip-ers in the crowd.
Last week, there was the Symfony Live conference in Paris. The conference was surprisingly big, about 500 developers came together in the impressing building of Cité Universitaire Internationale. The main topic was of course the upcoming Symfony2 release. We had two days of talks and a hackday on Saturday, and lots of fun every night. The topics are on the conference website, some discussion and slides are on joind.in.
He mentions some of the "state of Symfony2" updates that were mentioned and some of the talks that were given by the Liip employees including ones on the Symfony2 CMF project, RabbitMQ and Symfony2, security and Javascript.

Symfony Blog: Symfony Live Unconference
by Chris Cornutt February 18, 2011 @ 10:03:49
On the Symfony blog today Stefan Koopmanschap has announced the Symfony Live Unconference that will be happening at the same time as the second day of the Symfony Live Paris event.
It is with great pleasure that I present to you the Symfony Live Unconference. The Unconference will take place parallel to the second day of Symfony Live 2011 in Paris, and is sponsored by Interlutions and my own company Ingewikkeld.
The event opens the floor to anyone wanting to come and present on their topic - something Symfony or PHP development related, obviously. You can find out more about this new addition to the Symfony Live Paris event on its page and start getting those slides ready!

Symfony Blog: Symfony Live Conferences Updates
by Chris Cornutt January 28, 2011 @ 09:10:43
On the Symfony blog today there's some new updates about their upcoming SymfonyLive events posted - both for the San Francisco and Paris conferences.
I've already posted about the Symfony Live Conferences schedule a few weeks ago, but since then, we have added quite a few sessions from top-notch speakers.
San Francisco will be getting a talk from Dustin Whittle (a Symfony core team member) as well as Kris Wallsmith speaking about Assetic (an asset management library for PHP 5.3). Those attending the Paris conference will be happy to know that Weka Entertainment, the developers of a major Facebook game, will be on hand to talk about how they migrated everything to Symfony in less than three months.
You can find out more about these conferences on the Symfony Live website.
