On the Voices of the ElePHPant podcast today Cal Evans has posted the latest interview with a member of the PHP community. This time it's Matthew Weier O'Phinney, lead on the Zend Framework project.

Cal's "three questions" for Matthew were:

  • Since Zend Framework is the opposite of the ideals behind the Micro PHP Manifesto, what are your thoughts on it?
  • Zend Framework 2 is close but not done - should a new project go with v1 or v2?
  • What's your local user group and it's URL (hint: there's not one yet)

Zend Developer Zone:
Podcast Interview with Matthew "last name is" Weier O'Phinney
February 04, 2011 @ 08:49:11

On the Zend Developer Zone today there's a new interview by Kevin Schroeder (of Zend) with Matthew Weier O'Phinney of the Zend Framework project.

Late in December 2010 I started interviewing people for what will hopefully be a consistent stream of awesome podcasts. The first of those interviews was with Matthew Weier O'Phinney. In the interview he tells a little about himself, talks about Zend Framework (seriously?) where things have been and where things are going. It was quite an interesting interview to do and I am sure you will find listening to it just as interesting as it was to record it.

You can either listen in-page or you can download the mp3 of the interview to listen.

Kevin Schroeder's Blog:
ZendCon 2010 Podcast - Introducing Zend Framework 2.0
January 18, 2011 @ 11:25:14

Kevin Schroeder has posted the latest podcast of a session from the Zend/PHP Conference 2010 as recorded at the conference at the end of 2010 in Santa Clara, CA. This new recording is a session from Matthew Weier O'Phinney and Ralph Schindler introducing what will be new in the 2.0 version of the Zend Framework.

Zend Framework has grown tremendously since the first public preview release in March 2006. Originally a slim, MVC framework with a number of standalone components, it has grown to a codebase more than 2M lines of code. Work now turns to version 2, with goals of increased simplicity and advanced PHP 5.3 usage.

You can either listen via the in-page player or you can download the mp3 directly. You can also see the slides for the presentation over on Slideshare.

Zend Developer Zone:
ZendCon 2010 3 Questions with Matthew Weier O'Phinney
October 01, 2010 @ 12:33:52

The Zend Developer Zone has posted another in their "3 Questions" series today - a short interview with Matthew Weier O'Phinney, the lead of the Zend Framework project.

Matthew is a busy man these days working on Zend Framework 2.0, speaking at local user groups and in all his spare time being a dad and husband. I recently caught up with up with Matthew on IRC and in between answering my Zend Framework tech support questions, he agreed to answer...3 Questions.

His questions cover things like how he became the "Supreme Allied Commander" of the Zend Framework project, the major changes happening in Zend Framework 2.0's Zend_Form component and why his blog is named what it is (phly boy, phly).

IBuildings techPortal:
Contribute! (DPC '09 Sessions Podcast)
September 29, 2009 @ 12:30:47

The IBuildings techPortal has posted the latest episode in its podcast series of presentations from this year's Dutch PHP Conference. This time it's a talk from Matthew Weier O'Phinney on contributing to open source projects.

Working in isolation is easy. Most developers have long lists of tasks that never get shorter, and it's trivially easy to put on blinders as you slog through the list. Good developers realize that the only way to get through the list is to start using the work of others [...] In this session, we'll look at the various ways you can contribute to open source projects, and some common tools you can use to do so.

You can either listen via the in-page player or you can download the mp3 directly and check out this great session.
