IBM developerWorks: 2006 DC PHP Conference (Recap) October 30, 2006 @ 14:44:00
Over on the IBM developerWorks blog, Patrick Mueller has posted his wrapup of this year's DC PHP Conference. The conference was pretty small; about 80 people; in two small-ish conference rooms in the hotel. But everyone was great. Conferences are all about the people anyway. With the small crowd, it meant being able to spend time with a significant percentage of the people there. It was a mix of PHP thought leaders, everyday PHP programmers, and, since it was based in DC, a lot of folks focused on the unique industry that is DC - government. He talks about some of the talks given - including Chris Shiflett's security talk and Eli White's look at high volume PHP & MySQL scaling techniques. He also mentions some of the "general chatter" that was happening around him. Check out the rest of the blog entry for more.
Chris Shiflett's Blog: DC PHP Conference Recap October 23, 2006 @ 07:45:00
After having attended this year's DC PHP Conference, Chris Shiflett has come back with his own recap of the event including talks given and people met. This past Thursday, I attended the DC PHP Conference. Since I was only there for a day, I'm sure I missed a lot, but I did manage to do some of the things on my list. Talks hhe mentions were Mike Naberenzy's look at Getting Started with the Zend Framework and Eli White's High Volume PHP & MySQL Scaling Techniques talk. He also mentions meeting David Recordon from VeriSign and some work that Damien Seguy on tracking statistics on open phpinfo pages (about half still have register globals on!).
Chris Shiflett's Blog: Belated php|works Recap September 25, 2006 @ 07:19:38
Chris Shiflett has posted his own recap of the (just passed) php|works conference up in Toronto over on his blog. I've been traveling non-stop since php|works, so I haven't had a chance to reflect on the conference, what I learned, who I met, and things like that. (Zak has been doing a good job of this lately, and I'd like to follow his lead.) I've probably forgotten more than I remember, but this is my recap. Included in the things he mentions are:

Chris Shiflett has posted his brief recap of his experience at the php|tek conference this year, including links to two helpful references - the page of slides provided by php|architect and a Cluesheet of tons of info from the conference. There's also a comment made about the Call for Papers for php|architect's next conference later in the year.
Christan Wenz's Blog: php|tek 2006 recap May 01, 2006 @ 06:53:48
In his latest blog entry, Christan Wenz has posted his (lengthy) recap of the php|tek conference put on by the folks over at php|techitect. His summary includes mentions of Rasmus' keynote, Andrei's "rasmussed" talk on Unicode, and talks on the Zend Framework, time in PHP, and the panel discussion concerning frameworks in general. He also attended the "conference party" one evening with a few others hitting some bars following (don't miss the videos of this one). The next day saw Derick Rethans going on with a PHP-related rant and Johannes Schlüter's talk on the reflection API.

My talk, Agile PHP Testing, was very well received. I think KISS might be the missing ingredient that we need to ignite a testing revolution in the PHP community. Most people who approached me after the talk appreciated the simplicity of using test-more.php with no testing framework at all. I think they also appreciated knowing that using TAP allows them to "upgrade" later.
Of course, he includes the slides for his presentation, but he also links to others' presentations including ones from Ilia Alshanetsky, Andrei Zmievski, and Rasmus Lerdorf. And, for a little slice of what the conference was like visuall, check out Chris' pictures.
Zend Developer Zone: Are You Ready to R-R-R-R-RROUNDUP! April 03, 2006 @ 07:44:49

There's mentions of the mailing list being open to patches/code submissions from anyone, a start on a Zend_Mail class, some discussion on the PHP plugin for Eclipse, wonderings on the UTF-8 support for Lucene (Zend_Search), and quite a bit of talk about authorization and access control modules for the framework. Be sure to check out this and future roundups for the complete weekly story. |
