Skyrockets in Flight
Oct 05, 2009 @ 19:55:55

The php|architect podcast has launched the latest episode of their podcast series, another one recorded on the road at the CodeWorks touring conference - "Skyrockets in Flight".

Coming to you from the beautiful, sunny, hot and apparently very noisy American Airlines Training Centre in Dallas, TX, this week's episode features Marco Tabini, Elizabeth Naramore, Josh Holmes from Microsoft, Cal Evans and somebody's GSM tk...tk...tk... cell phone. Topics in Skyrocket in Flight include such nail biters as overturned cement trucks, missed flights, Microsoft's new WebsiteSpark program, our upcoming PHP on Windows contest and a little bit of rooting for Team Awesome.

You can grab this latest episode in the three usual ways - listen in-page, download the mp3 or subscribe to the podcast feed.

CodeWorks 09 Journal
Sep 16, 2009 @ 13:32:09

As a part of his involvement in the CodeWorks 2009 conference (on multiple stops) Cal Evans is trying an experiment - documenting his trip in a series of blog entries, one each day.

As you are a regular reader, you will no doubt, have noticed the CodeWorks speaker badge to the left of this post. It is my goal (not promise) to journal these final days of hectic preparation and the entire wild journey of what will undoubtedly be one of the more interesting things I ever do.

Here's the list of his posts:

Keep coming back - this list will get updated as he makes new posts to his blog!

CodeWorks 09 Free Webcast Series
Sep 09, 2009 @ 16:05:57

If you missed Cal Evans' webinar (as a part of the php|architect series leading up to CodeWorks 2009) you're in luck! He's posted some of the parts of his presentation on his blog.

Zend Framework is unique in the PHP framework lineup in that it is simple to pull out single pieces and use them independently of the framework itself. This was the premise of the webcast I presented as part of the summer webcast series, hosted by phparchitect and sponsored by Microsoft. It it, I take several pieces of Zend Framework and use them to build a simple little tool. The tools is highly incomplete and only meant to demonstrate technique.

He's posted this sample code and his slides for the presentation for your perusal. The recording of the webcast isn't up yet, but you can check out other webcasts in the series on the Webcasts page on the php|architect site.

CodeWorks DreamSchedule Generator
Jul 21, 2009 @ 14:05:30

If you're planning on attending any of the stops on this year's CodeWorks 2009 conference, you should check out this fun tool you can use to narrow down your choices from the thirty or so talks to something a bit more manageable:

Conferences are always busy—there are people to meet, new subjects to learn, gadgets to envy, and so on. Among all the fun stuff, it's difficult to keep track of exactly what you want to attend. [...] Fear not! Our development team has come to your rescue with a new tool exclusive to CodeWorks 09: the DreamSchedule Generator, which you can use to create your very own customized CodeWorks schedule.

The tool lets you pick the city of your choice and select each of the talks, one in each time slot, you want to attend. Name the schedule and you'll get a custom URL you can use to refer back to which sessions you wanted to attend. You can also send it out via Twitter if you'd like others to know where you'll be.

If you have the time later today and want to listen in on some great PHP content, be sure to check out today's webcast from php|architect (as a part of the series leading up to CodeWorks 2009) on PHP and Windows integration from Sumit Chawla.

Using some of the technologies proposed by Microsoft to extend your PHP applications doesn't require a rip & replace approach. Sumit will present a series of projects (samples toolkits, frameworks and SDK) that enable PHP developers to easily extent their web applications.

Sumit will talk about technologies like Silverlight, SQL Server and Windows Azure. You can sign up for the webcast here (currently only Windows and OS X are supported by the GoToMeeting software).

If you'd like more information on the other webcasts in the series, you can see the full list here.
