Jul 07, 2015 @ 08:41:18

On the 7PHP.com site Khayrettee Wasseem has posted a new interview with Ben Ramsey about the recent anniversary of the PHP language - "20 Years of PHP".

This is the 2nd serie of our #20YearsOfPHP ! YES $this->year[‘2015′] needs to be over-brimmed with lots and lots of love and happiness to celebrate this amazing unique moment. All that PHP has achieved today, is the hard work of myriads of PHP rockstar from all over the world. It’s also because of a super-fantastic group (they know who they are!) of dedicated people who are doing their utmost best to keep shaping, giving consistence to and above all safeguarding the magical community that is The PHP Community! [...] Here over 7PHP, I’m taking this a step further by interviewing some of the PHP rockstars about what they have to say about #20YearsOfPHP

In the interview Ben answers questions about some of his own experience in the PHP community, lessons he's learned over the years, why he thinks PHP has survived so long and his advice to new PHPers just starting out.

Three Devs & A Maybe Podcast:
virtPHP with Jacques Woodcock and Ben Ramsey
May 22, 2014 @ 11:08:05

The Three Devs & a Maybe poscast has posted their latest episode, #25, featuring an interview with Jacques Woodcock and Ben Ramsey about the VirtPHP project (among other things).

This week we are very lucky to have Jacques Woodcock and Ben Ramsey from the virtPHP project on the podcast. Similar in nature to Python's 'virtualenv', virtPHP is a tool for creating and managing multiple isolated PHP environments on a single machine. Currently command-line support on *nix based-systems is complete, however, during the show we touch on the challenges in-regard to SAPI support. We then move on to discuss the interesting paths each took to get into development, followed up finally with the weekly quiz.

Other topics discussed include the discussions around the "demise of TDD", php[tek]/php[architect], the PHPNG patch, PHP The Right Way and many others. You can listen to this latest episode either through the in-page player or by downloading the mp3 directly.

Ben Ramsey's Blog:
Rebooting Nashville PHP
Apr 27, 2010 @ 10:30:04

If you're in the Nashville, TN area and have been wondering about the state of the local PHP user group, wonder no more! Ben Ramsey, having recently moved to the area, has started a move to reboot NashvillePHP.

Now, I’m in Nashville. A few months ago, I moved here to pursue a job with a local web start-up. I never had any intention of running the local PHP user group, but Will Fitch, the former Nashville PHP organizer, contacted me to see if I would be interested in taking over the reins. He had moved out of the area and was no longer able to devote the time necessary to keep the group growing. I humbly accepted the torch, and that’s why I’m now the Nashville PHP organizer.

He issues a challenge to the Nashville PHPers to help him in his efforts to build up a good, solid group that developers can enjoy being a part of and help contribute to in their own ways. The group will be holding meetings once a month with June 8th being the first on this new schedule. A new googel group has been formed and the NashvillePHP twitter account will be more heavily used as well as a #nashvillephp channel on the Freenode IRC network.
