DPCRadio: Technical Debut
Aug 17, 2010 @ 14:19:35

On the Ibuildings techPortal today they've posted the latest podcast in their DPCRadio series - Elizabeth Naramore's presentation on technical debt.

Technical debt is something that most project teams or independent developers have to deal with – we take shortcuts to push out releases, we don’t focus on quality, deadlines need to be met, quick fixes slowly become the standard. Whatever the reason, if we don’t manage our technical debt (not unlike financial debt), before too long our applications are technically bankrupt, and we are forced to completely refactor and start anew.

She talks about what technical debt is, when it's okay and when it's not, managing it, how to minimize it and how to address it as both an individual and team. You can either listen via the in-page player or download it directly. She's also posted her slides to her blog.

Dutch PHP Conference 2010 "Big Blind Bird" Ticket Sale
Jan 20, 2010 @ 19:36:15

If you hadn't heard (and were up in the air on attending this year's event) the Dutch PHP Conference has put their tickets on sale as a part of a "big blind bird" discount, but it's only good before the schedule for this year is released.

In previous years, we always had 'early bird' discount on our DPC tickets. This year, we'll have early bird discounts as well, but we're adding an extra level of discount. Since the schedule isn't available yet (our Call for Papers is still running), we're launching the ticket sales with a 'blind bird discount'. For those of you that know that whatever the schedule is, DPC10 is going to be awesome anyway.

The passes are discounted for a limited time - you can get a full conference pass for 500 Euro (marked down 150 Euro) and a "Tutorial Only" ticket for 265 Euro (a discount of 85 Euro). Sound good? Head over and purchase your tickets
