PHP Test Fest 2009
May 11, 2009 @ 16:18:53

Michelangelo van Dam has posted some of his experiences at this year's TestFest organized by the PHPBelgium group.

We decided to test the SQLite3 extension, and we also had two people writing tests for LDAP. With a nice end result of 24 tests written for SQLite3 and 9 for LDAP, we are very pleased with the result since only 9 people attended our event. Our mentor Felix De Vliegher had given us a very clear instructions and apparently most attendees already had seen my (and other people's) slides on slideshare.net. See the pictures of those great moments on flicr.com.

You can check out some of the impact that they and other TestFesters made this past weekend in the PHP 5.3 code coverage report.

BugHuntDay or fixing bugs for fun
Oct 16, 2008 @ 16:10:09

In a new post to his blog today Michelangelo talks about a joint effort between the Dutch PHP user group phpGG and the PHP Belgium group - BugHuntDay.org.

Fixing bugs is mostly considered the least favorite part of open-source projects, which often delays a good project growing into a great one. And this is a pity, because fixing bugs can really be fun and is very educative.

The Bug Hunt Day is planned for November 8th (2008) for those in the Netherlands. Here's how it'll go:

A typical BugHuntDay is started with a small presentation by a code contributor to that framework or library, followed by a group effort fixing bugs while being assisted by experts. This way attendees learn a bit of the framework or library, the process of fixing bugs and the process of quality assurance (QA).

If you're around the Roosendaal area and want to participate, check out the Bug Hunt Day website and find out how to get involved.

PHP Belgium meeting
Aug 26, 2008 @ 17:57:18

If you live in Belgium and have been thinking about attending one of the PHPBelgium meetings but aren't sure what they'd be like, check out this post from Marc Veldman on the Ibuildings blog for a sneak peek.

Last week the Belgian PHP User group held their second meeting. Because the venue was fairly close to our office in Vlissingen, some of us decided to have a look. We were early, so there weren't many people yet, but soon the room began to fill up and in the end there were a little over 30 people. Not bad, given that this was only the second meeting.

Talks given covered methods for improving your PHP development (best practices) and a look at the Zend Framework. There were even raffles for fabulous prizes (like copies of "Enterprise PHP Development", elePHPants and a ticket to attend ZendCon this year). Check out the group's website for more information on the next meeting and other bits of info.
