PECL spread module resurrected!
Mar 06, 2008 @ 18:05:00

In a quick new blog post to the NorthClick blog, Soenke Ruempler points out that, due to some updates made by Rob Richards, the Spread extension for PECL is back in working order again.

Yesterday I got an e-mail that two of my PECL bug reports for the spread module have been fixed. It seems that it gets some recent love from Rob Richards who commited some fixes and cleanups.

The Spread functionality allows developers to create messaging services by acting as a message bus between the clients and between the client/servers.

Where are the PHP women?
Oct 27, 2006 @ 12:58:00

It seems the "PHP Women" group is getting support from all over, including from this post on the PHPClasses.org site.

This post lets you know about a new initiative to bring together the women that work with PHP throughout the world.

It explains how spreading the word is vital for the success of communities of specific interests. The article also tells what you can do to help.

Manuel Lemos talks about the group, the formation of it, and who it tries to appeal to. He also gives a suggestion or two of how to help the group really get started (spread the word). There's also a link to the user group information on the PHPClasses.org site, as well as a link to the "Delegations" section of the official PHP Women site.

MS vs PHP
Feb 20, 2006 @ 12:57:53

From Ilia Alshanetsky's blog today, there's a mention of a cartoon found on Microsoft's site mentioning PHP.

You know you're moving up in the world when Microsoft feels that it’s necessary to make cartoon disparaging your products, in favor of their own wares. Pierre, one of the PHP developers, has found this gem on the French segment of the Microsoft site. I guess it means that PHP is making enough in-roads into the Enterprise market, that big fish like MS feel it necessary to spread some FUD as a stop-gap measure.
