PHP SouthWest (#phpsw) User Group First Meeting: 7pm, 1st September 2010
Aug 27, 2010 @ 17:57:10

Those near the Bristol area of England might want to check out this new post from Stuart Herbert about the upcoming PHP SouthWest meetup happening September 1st in Bristol.

The first meeting of the PHP SouthWest User Group will be at The Third Floor, Bush House, Bristol from 7pm. The room is booked (big thanks to Del for that), and we have a projector sorted too; now we just need our first speakers.

Right now there's no definite speakers but Ryan Mauger could be presenting some of his Zend Framework tips talk (for the upcoming PHPNW conference). The meeting will be followed by a gathering at a local pub. You can find the location via this map if you're not familiar with the area.

CodeigniterCon 2010
Aug 16, 2010 @ 16:41:39

Lorna Mitchell recently attended the cicon2010 conference in Bristol (a CodeIgniter-centric event) and has written up a summary of her time there.

I spent the weekend in Bristol so I could attend cicon2010 - a volunteer-organised first-edition conference around the CodeIgniter PHP Framework. [...] I saw two talks, both of which were actually really good, which is pretty impressive when you're going on stage to a rather fed up audience! Kudos to Kevin Prince and Joel Gascoigne for their talks.

She also mentions talks from Phil Sturgeon and Adam Griffiths but notes that, despite the good content of the talks, the actual event wasn't run all that well. As a result (of both her comments and experience in event organizing) she'll be posting advice for conference organizers to not have some of the same issues.
