In a follow-up to an earlier post from Jackson Miller concerning PHP5 on Red Hat Enterprise 3, there's this new post on his blog today with his wrap up of that - and his manual compilation configuration.
An RPM would be preferable to me since I don't want to veer off the supported path too much. [...] The PHP I compiled has been running just fine. It took a couple of tries and I had to install quite a few libraries in the process.
A while back I posted about looking for an RPM of PHP5 for Red Hat Enterprise 3. I never found an RPM so I just compiled my own. I upgraded MySQL to 4.1 (I think I did find an RPM for that) and then compiled PHP5.
He lists out his entire configure statement (wow, that's a lot of extensions), in an effort to provide an example for anyone else out there that happens to be in the same boat as him...
