Cal Evans' Blog:
Breaking into PHP
April 26, 2010 @ 09:12:22

Cal Evans having been asked the same question over and over about working in a PHP-related profession has written up a blog post about it to share the advice with as many as possible.

The question posed to me is this. I am new to PHP, but not necessarily to programming. How do I get hired as a PHP developer.

Cal includes a few recommendations of things to do to help not only increase your "hireability" but to also get you into the PHP community as a while like:

  • attend local user group meetings
  • work on an open source project
  • blog as much as possible
  • speak/teach as much as you can

There's several other suggestions he has and they're all good starting points for when you can do to jump right in and get noticed/known by the PHP community as a whole.
