DevHell Podcast - Episode 19: Almost an Apology
by Chris Cornutt September 18, 2012 @ 09:54:12
The latest episode of the /Dev/Hell podcast has been posted today - Episode #19, "Almost an Apology". Hoest by PHP community members Chris Hartjes and Ed Finkler, their special guest this time is Chris Shiflett.
After some downtime spent taking mental reps, Chris and Ed are back with a vengeance for one of our best shows. Joining us is Chris Shiflett, PHP fellow and security expert. They talk about how we interact with non-techie members of dev teams, what they're doing with Node, the state of the Canadian soccer program, heavy vs lightweight frameworks, tribalism in programming communities, and the importance of balancing work with life. We also talk to Chris Shiflett about his role as co-founder of Brooklyn Beta, and what they aree trying to do with the conference.
You can listen to the episode either using the in-page player, by downloading the mp3 or by subscribing to their feed.

Sean Coates' Blog: Post-Advent 2010
by Chris Cornutt December 27, 2010 @ 10:09:06
Sean Coates has posted a post-Advent wrapup after he and Chris Shiflett have posted the final PHP Advent article for 2010.
As I write this on Christmas Eve, Chris is putting the finishing touches on PHP Advent 2010. [...] Due only to the abilities and professionalism of our most excellent authors, PHP Advent 2010 was - at least in my opinion-the best year, yet. They wrote wonderful, substantial, punchy articles that informed our readers, and generated significantly more traffic than we've seen in previous years: over 70,000 views, from more than 25,000 unique visitors, so far
He also recounts a few stories from the Advents in years past - the difficulties he and Chris went through to get things organized and ready for publication and how, in 2009 some things almost didn't happen. This year's advent has come back stronger than ever with great articles on:

Chris Shiflett's Blog: PHP Advent
by Chris Cornutt December 01, 2010 @ 10:11:18
Good news for all of the fans of the PHP Advent article series that comes around this time each year - Chris Shiflett has confirmed it'll be happening again this year.
PHP Advent is our little way of showcasing some of the talented people who work with PHP in some form or fashion, and persuading them to share something they've learned during a busy month when they might otherwise keep quiet. We'll be publishing an article each day in December until Christmas.
If you're new to the PHP Advent (or advent-type article calendar things), check out last year's articles from lots of great members of the PHP community covering everything from development processes, technology tips and parenting.

Community News: PHP Advent 2008
by Chris Cornutt December 02, 2008 @ 08:44:47
Its the holiday season and even the PHP community is getting into the spirit. Much like last year, >Chris Shiflett (joined this time by >Sean Coates) have created this year's PHP Advent calendar.
From Chris Shiflett's blog:
Is it December again already? I like good traditions, so with the help of Sean and many others, PHP Advent is back again, this time with its own domain. I would call it a web site, but that might be stretching the truth at the moment. Jon is going to help us out with a simple design in the very near future. The focus, of course, is the quality content from our gracious authors.
The December 1st post for this year is one by yours truely - You Need the PHP Community. For more great content as the month goes on, you can keep up either through their feed, on Twitter or just by heading over to the site each day.
