Ever since .NET came out of the doors of Microsoft, people have been comparing it to every other web technology out there, wondering if it was going to be the end-all, be-all of web scripting languages. Well, SitePoint is taking this one step further and has a comparison between everyone's favorite web language (at least around here), PHP, and the infamous Microsoft's entry, .NET.
In Debate - .NET V. PHP: Top 6 Reasons to Use .NET, the author takes the Microsoft side of things, poking at the underbelly of PHP. The reasons that he gives here are a little fishy, like "speed" and "it's cheaper to develop for", but there are some valid points - such as the fact that, because .NET has the backing of a major company, it does have better development tools that PHP for the moment.
And, of course, what would a debate be without the other side of the story. They also have an article that covers a lot of the same ground for the PHP side (the good side of the Force *cough*), and shows that .NET isn't all it's cracked up to be. I agree that every tool has it's place, but with PHP being free, expanded more and more all the time, and having an ever-growing userbase, it's pretty clear that PHP isn't going to get killed off by .NET anytime soon.
