Well, let's start things off right this morning with the lastest Zend Weekly Summary for this week. They make mention of the PiP system that I pointed out yesterday as well as the presentation system that Rasmus is supposed to be working on. There's mention of some small bugs like in file_exists and the great "Bug Hunt" that the developer's are going on. They're going to try to get the 800 or so outstanding bugs down to 0. Best of luck guys!
Also today, from Jason Martin, there's a site that aims to help you build your own PHP-based portal using PHP and MySQL (like a weblog or CMS idea). Quick and Easy PHP Based Web Portal shows you step by step how to make a nice, simple CMS system so that you can do a number of things like: post links, search those links, have an email "response" form, and post, edit and search the news on your site. It's a nice little compact system and it's all presented in once place, so it's easier to get it all in one shot. This article is well done, but lacks one key thing - how to use it all. Unless you know intuitively what you're doing, I can't imagine a newbie knowing what to do after "So now all YOU have to do is plug-in your graphics, and text, and start your site going..."
And finally, a story just for the heck of it - ApacheToday has a new article about a developer that has managed to compile Apache on linux running on his Playstation 2.
Apache on PS2 users is that compiling "anything" can be quite a daunting task for many people. For this reason, I've decided to provide compiled Apache 2 binaries for download. These are currently available from http://www.phi-web.co.uk/ps2-apache/
I think it's hilarious that Sony made this linux kit in the first place, but it was a wonderful idea - I know how much I love just "tinkering around" with things just to see if I can get them working, and I know there's tons more out there like that... So, if you want to give it a shot, get the binaries and try it out!
