First, from over on UnixReview.com this morning, there's a piece about using PHP-CGI to help with some of your sysadmin tasks. Basically, this article is just for those people out there that don't know much about PHP as a CGI program, so it only tells a little bit about how to install it, get it going, and using it to make scripts. There's not much to this one, but there is a neat little "pure PHP" readline function that you can use to parse the input that you give a PHP-CGI script...
And, here's another one for those newbies out there (or those that are just learning SQL) - Builder.com has a nice little intro to the SELECT statement posted today. This article is the second in their series that details a certain SQL command with several different options and info about it. This one covers several of the "add-ons" that you can give a SELECT, including the ORDER BY and GROUP BY functions, and several of the built-in math functionality (SUM, AVG, MIN, etc.). It's not a bad little article, and anyone just starting out with SQL could benefit immensely from it. (This Shelley Doll is cranking out these great articles like crazy - keep up the good work Shelley!)
Now, I know I have trouble with it - so I know that the rest of the world does too. It's not easy to come up with a nice, original website layout that fits your site, but this article from SitePoint might help. In Get The Look - Design Templates, they give you tons of example pages to work from, including colors and theme types ("crisp and clean","vintage retro",etc.), so you can pick which one might suit your site the best. Some of the color schemes tha they give are quite nice, but it will still require some creativity on your part to make the site look nice with the given colors and/or images. Good luck and enjoy!
