Over on Zend this morning, they have the second part of their Java series about using Java objects in PHP. If you remember that far back, the first part introduced the ideas for working with Java in PHP and how to get it all working. This part deals more with the varaible typing differences in dealing with java and a few common things to watch out for when you're writing these scripts. It's not an overly long article (I wish they'd include more in each one), so don't count on much from it. It's just a basic piece about some general details and errors you might see. (Also, since when can Zend claim to be "the PHP Company?)
And, as more of a compilation of articles, Evolt.org has a series all about "The ABCs of CMS" (Content Management Systems) - with three parts to it so far:
They get into some great detail on what makes a good CMS system and what you need to watch out for, with stories from their past experience. There's all sorts of ideas in these articles that only apply to a big major website that has tons of people using it, but there's a lot of good "little" ideas too. Thanks to geoff for the tips about these articles...
Also today, from Builder.com, there's a neat little piece about an alternative interviewing technique - The Whiteboard Test. Now, I'm sure there's people out there that have been doing this kind of thing for ages, but I've never run across one. Basically, instead of sitting there asking questions, you give the applicant a problem and a marker, and let them go to town. It seems like it would be much more effective in finding the right person for the job, and plus it's kinda a neat twist on the normal "here's my resume, ask me questions" interview.
