Over on SitePoint this morning, there's a new piece about writing secure scripts with PHP 4.2. There were lots of changes made to the way that variables were passed and made global, so it only makes sense that there are some new ways to make them more secure as well...They start with a good summary of how things changed in PHP 4.2 from the older versions, as well as how it affects various things like sessions. It's not a bad little article, though it's nothing you probably couldn't figure out from the Changelog or from tinkering yourself - but at least they have it all in one place for you. (Thanks also to NewbieNetwork for pointing this one out)
Alright - this one is for all of you SQL newbies out there. If you're working with PHP, and haven't yet tapped the power that you can get when you attach it to a database - you're missing out (big time). And if it's the SQL language that's keeping you away, check out this article and get started on your path to become a SQL guru. They start from the ground up, showing you everything from SELECT and INSERT to some of the math functions that are pretty standard with any SQL-based database. So, if you've been putting off learning databases because SQL just seemed too difficult, here's your answer - Enjoy!
This last note is just more of an FYI than anything else - there's a possibility that the NewbieNetwork might be changing hosting options (moving to another machine at least). So, what does that mean for us? Well, the PHPDN Unified Forums are also hosted on that machine - so, if the move happens, they might be down for a little bit. We just wanted to inform all of you, just in case, so you're not left in the dark...
