First off this morning, it looks like the folks over at Zend have finally caught back up and have released this week's PHP Weekly Summary. Most of it is just the usual informative stuff, but there are a few things that are worth talking a look at: there's the mention of PHP 4.3.0 and who will be taking care of what when it all comes down to the wire. Also, there's neat little piece of code down at the bottom that lets you add variables to the URL (using output_add_rewrite_var and output_remove_rewrite_var).
And, finally - I know how much you all out there hate the ads on the web. The whole online experience has become a set of billboards just waiting for your eagar eyes. But, for those sites that don't abuse ads and use them tastefully, it's a blessing. If you're looking to introduce some ad content into your site, but don't want to have to write your own PHP app to do it - check out this article from DevArticles.com. They show you how to use the PHPAdsNew software to integrate ad tracking and stats along with just displaying the ads, so you can not only provide some good ad coverage, but you can also provide stats to those you're advertising for so they can see that they are getting the coverage they deserve. The PHPAdsNew system is really a very nice setup, especially considering it's open source (not that there's not tons of good O.S. software, it's just rare to find a banner ad solution that is. Most are just little "banner-rotator scripts" that people whipped up). This article really shows you how to get the software all set up and working with your database, and even mentions the "export to CSV" feature that can come in very handy (Excel format). Enjoy!
