Well, it looks like the guys over at EvilWalrus.com (one of our partners in the PHPDN) has posted their latest and greatest site code out there for the world to use and abuse. EW2 looks just like the older version, but is more optimized. So, lokg time EvilWalrus fans, you have nothing to worry about - if anything, it's better...
And, speaking of site redesigns - the NewbieNetwork has been working on a little redesign of their own lately. So, hop on over to http://dev.newbienetwork.net/ and see what you think. It's quite a bit different than what he currently has, but I like it. It almost has a Unix feel to the interface...Leave your comments to Newbie under here.
Everyone these days wants a popular site, right? We all want to be successful. Well, one thing that people never seem to think about (me included) is the Price of Popularity. In SitePoint's newest article, Bursting the Bubble - The Cost of Site Popularity, the author talks about those "hidden things" that no one tells you about...The problem is not the attention as such, but the sudden increase in the demands on your server and its network. If a host expects a particularly active site that doesn't need much in the way of resources on their servers, then they will price the hosting to cover their costs accordingly.
We have such a select audience that I'm not afraid of things like these happening, though - well, that and I work for a hosting company (heh). Funny thing is, we just had a customer that's getting charged quite a lot because they host .zip and .exe files - and they've just started to get really popular - and the cost is amazing. Some good things to think about here...
