Handling 404s, Evolt Entity Chart, and MySQL
Feb 19, 2002 @ 14:39:56

The folks over at DevArticles have yet another article posted today - this one's about Handling 404 Error's With Apache. Now, most of us just make a pretty standard web server with the default 404 page, and some of us out there even go so far as to make a special 404 page. His suggestion is to always include a link back to the homepage on that page, just in case. I've even seen some pages that take the name of the page you were looking for and find pages named similarly and suggest those (or ones that do something similar). It's not easy to pull off, but it could be much more useful to your site's visitors in the long run.

For those out there that always have trouble tracking down those elusive "&anything" items for your site, trying to find that perfect symbol - fear not! Evolt has a new article posted that will help you out - a Simple Character Entity Chart. They have quite a list of items here, some that I never even knew existed. So, enjoy!

And, just as a small side-note, the CEO of MySQL has posted a letter to the public, one of those optimistic letters that every CEO writes. It's nice, though, that there's someone at the helm over there that knows that the reason his software is where it is is because of the users. Too many companies forget that...
