Evolt on Documentation and Mono
Feb 15, 2002 @ 15:01:26

Well, there's a whole bunch of nothin' out there today - it's Friday and there's not much news to be found...but here's what I did find:

The fine folks over at Evolt.org has a new article this morning about documentation for your project. They give some great suggestions in this often undone step of the development process. Sure, you talk a lot about how the site will work and what it needs to do - but there's no substitute for a good, solid site-outline that will guide you through those tough times when you don't even remember how your piece fits in. They give suggestions for all sorts of things, including workflow models, generic descriptions and even a good starting place. I've been there when you didn't have a good site layout and description and you're trying to remember exactly how this thing's supposed to work. It's not fun - document.

I know it's been around for a bit now, and there's been tons of controversy surrounding it, but Mono really is a neat idea. Microsoft's .NET software can bring some pretty useful features to the 'net, but who trust them these days? Wouldn't you rather have something almost exactly the same that is Open Source and just as useful? Mono has really filled out in the past months, and it now includes a C# compiler and a runtime for the Common Language Infrastructure and a set of class libraries. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, check out this link and see where you can help...
