Yesterday, apparently after I posted in the morning (I didn't get any other time the rest of the day - some of us have to work, ya know), the NewbieNetwork posted a new tutorial talking about Optimizing MySQL Indexes. For those that don't know, indexes allow you to create a highly-optimized version of just the data you need out of a table. This not only makes things obviously faster, but add to that that MySQL can search indexes faster than normal tables and imagine the speed jump. So, now you have optimized your column types, and now its time to break out the bottle of wine you have been saving, right? No, not yet. You see, there is still more optimizing you can do. Check out this article to see how...
MySQL.com has a new little note this morning that there's a new Enhanced MySQL ODBC driver out - version 3.51. An ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver enables client programs to access a database or data source. The new version 3.51 MySQL ODBC driver is a greatly enhanced successor version to the existing MyODBC 2.50, rewritten to follow the ODBC 3.5x specifications. It provides complete and up-to-date ODBC functionality when accessing any MySQL database. This latest version is available under the GPL license as well as under commercial license. The feature listing can be found here and the download, here.
In light of some of the problems some people have been having getting here - the DNS issues should be resolved pretty quickly here. A lot of people are still getting the Catalog.com default page for the web server that I was supposed to be on. I've edited the zone file to put it on the new server, but some other ISPs are slow to update their DNS. So, I guess they'll just need to wait. The numbers have been down a little bit, but not much - so I know most of you are getting through. Also, an odd thing has been pointed out to me that the forums aren't working exactly right - I'm looking into it and seeing what I can do about getting them back to their former state....thanks for bearing with me.
