U.S uses MySQL, New NN, and Weekly Summary
Jan 21, 2002 @ 15:48:58

MySQL.com has a new story posted this morning about how the U.S. Census sites use MySQL to store the info that they gather. And it's not just MySQL either: The Census Bureau's web development team has relied on the MySQL database server, as well as other open-source software such as Perl, Apache, Linux and PHP, to develop these highly-acclaimed and extraordinarily successful web sites. Pretty cool that someone out there in the gov't has a clue...

Well, everyone needs to go gawk and stare at the latest incarnation of the NewbieNetwork. Jason has posted the latest version of the site, complete with all of the info that you know and love from the past, including all of his tutorials. I think we both are going to try to come up with a XML spec for tutorials so that maybe we can share them back and forth or something...might be fun...

And, last but not least, Zend has posted their latest Weekly Summary for PHP. It includes info on some of the XML fixes (DOMXML and XSLT stuff) as well as discussion of the alpha version of PHP5. There's also an interesting note about "overloading tags" with PHP which includes binding code to certain tags, like if a function called tag_open_h1 exists, then it is being called whenever a H1 tag is being seen. Some pretty cool uses here...
