One of the more popular PHP-based applications out there (possibly top in the blog category) is Wordpress, and today, PHPit has this first part of a series seeking to help you use it as something a little different - a content management system.
In this two-part tutorial I will show you exactly how to transform WP from a blogging tool into a full-blown CMS. In this part I will provide an introduction to plugins and templates, and explain how they work, and how to use them to your advantage. In the next part I will guide you through the steps necessary to use WP as a CMS.
Although WordPress is primarily known as a blogging tool, it is just so much more. With a few modifications, plugins and custom templates it's possible to use WordPress as a content management system.
You'll need to alredy have it set up and running on a sure (there's loads of tutorials out there for that) and be pretty familiar with how it all works to get this done. He'll have you writing modules and working with plugins as well as modifying the templates to accomidate the new code. There's even a section of (two) common problems that have popped up in the past to help you out.
Keep an eye out here for the next part of the series...
