On PHPEverywhere today, there's his look at the Zend Framework.
The recent annoucement of the vaporware Zend Framework has sparked lots of speculation. Given the sparse amount of information, I can safely say that I have every chance of being wrong (or right) in what I say next:
- Unless everyone is unusually creative, look for a development model that matches an existing one such as the Tomcat model
- Some APIs will be addressed: User authentication, Registration and invocation of plug-in-components, Web services, Centralised configuration management, Possibly UI and event management
- I suspect the code will be divided into core services
- Half the skill in design is in choosing what to leave out
- No one who has written a PHP framework or large PHP app will be happy when the source code is released. Then everyone will get drunk and make up.
With all of the serious looks at the framework, it's nice to read something that's a bit lighter and is able to poke a bit of fun at the whole buzz that it's started in the community...
