Well, the official announcement has been posted by Zend concerning their "PHP Collaboration Project".

What is the PHP Collaboration Project?
The PHP Collaboration Project is an open source initiative through which the PHP community and partners will create an industrial-grade PHP Web application development and deployment environment. The purpose of the Collaboration Project is to create a vibrant playing field for PHP Web application development and deployment. The project will help us all take PHP to the next level for business-critical Web applications.

I'm not quite sure what this might mean for the PHP community (or the current state of the language), but I can only hope there's good things ahead. They state that "individual developers" won't be pushed out of the development loop, but when you involve large corporations in the mix, you have to wonder who would "win out" when the time comes to fix bugs/add new features/etc...

It makes me wonder if this new project will help PHP, but hurt the community around it...
