Derick Rethans has a quick little post today mentioning some of the details about the PHP releases process and a few difficulties that it caused.
Besides lists of projects we are also making sure that the Release Process itself is also more consistent, which should help with a more stable PHP in the end. The lists of projects are not finished yet, if you are a lead on a project which is interested in participating, please write an e-mail to php-qa@lists.php.net.
In the past there have been some issues with certain larger projects that stopped working when their users upgraded their PHP versions. In order to streamline things a bit the PHP QA team embarked on an effort to make those projects take part in the PHP release process.
Some of the projects already signed up include: eZ Publish, phpMyAdmin, Worpress, Serendipity, and FUDForum. It's good to see that there's an inititive to get on top of this part of the process. I haven't personally noticed anything in the past, but then I haven't worked on any of the large scales that most of these projects are on...
