From PHPBuilder.com today, there's this new article posted with a look at "Simple Remoting".

This article was written to provide the novice PHP developer with the tools and skills necessary to obtain dynamic information from one web page and display that data on another web page. What we will be doing is creating our own "weather" script as well as obtaining and displaying the US Department of Homeland Security Threat Level.

We will work through the weather script as a tutorial process, and then we will create and use the Threat Level display as a reference.

He starts off with the example of pulling weather information from weather.com, and, with the help of some regular expressions, parses out the information he needs. Once he explains all of that, he moves on to the similar example he mentioned earlier - the Threat Level fetch/display.

While there's probably better ways to parse the data, the examples here are a decent start. "Remoting" isn't a touch concept to grasp, and, in fact, it's one of the core features of web services - a much more advanced method of transferring data between two sources...
