Pierre has a new post on his blog today with a few thoughts on "PHP 6.0 and PEAR" and the changes that are coming.
It was the beginning of a success. Every PHP releases spread PEAR over the PHP Community.
But this time is over. A few seconds ago, I removed the last PEAR from HEAD, which means that php 6.0 from now on has no more PEAR.
PEAR was always my favourite FUD source on the php internals list. I spent days to convince people to get and keep PEAR in any single PHP Releases and months to fix bugs, add some features and provide support.
What kind of effect will this change have on PEAR and its usage among the community. Part of the reason that it was used was simply because it was there (c'mon, we both know it) on most PHP distributions, and so I'm left wondering what will happen to this this amazing resource of scripts without its inclusion in PHP6...
