In an effort to help increase the benefits and features (and everything else) for the Mambo CMS, a group has been formed - the Mambo Foundation.

The Mambo Foundation, Inc. has been launched as an independent non-profit association created to grow, support and promote the multi award-winning Mambo content management system to its growing open source community, estimated at over five million users worldwide. Mambo continues to be Open Source and licensed under the GNU GPL.

The Mambo Foundation is a direct reaction to those higher user expectations. Our goal is to nurture the creative and unrestrictive environment of an Open Source project with the framework and financial backing of the Foundation.

Sounds like it definitely has potential...of the CMSes that are out there, Mambo is definitely ahead of the pack. It's large, but not too large and it's managed to keep the bloat away (unlike some others we know)...
