John Cox's weblog has an interesting note today - this post about a new social networking application written in PHP - AroundMe.

This is the first Social Networking application written with PHP that I have seen (I do live a sheltered life, so there may be others). I can not vouch for the code, but the interface is extremely clean and functional. There is also an online demo for lazy folks like me that don't download anything until the weekends.

It does look pretty slick, with features like a membership wiki, events, tasks, user profiles, RSS feeds, channels, tagging, and a whole lot more. They also have a roadmap of additional things that they want to add, including: more social networking, email integration, "social capital build", multi-noding (networks of nodes), and a skills finder. Keep an eye on this one - it definitely has potential...
