Marco Tabini's Blog:
Removing Mailing Lists from BeebleX Results
Jul 26, 2005 @ 03:20:22

Marco Tabini has this new post on his blog with the answer to a question that (apparently) several people have been asking - is there a way to remove the mailing list results from the BeebleX search results?

Several people have written me asking whether it was possible to remove the mailing lists from a BeebleX result set. I can see their point - the ML database is so much bigger than everything else that it tends to drown the other databases, so this makes sense (although the other databases are still so small that the resulting search engine is somewhat - make that quite - limited).

Therefore, I have added a new search option called "All databases (without mailing lists)". It shows up on the main page and as a result set restriction option in the search results. My question now is whether it should also have its own prefix (nolist: perhaps?). Thoughts?

Personally I think a prefix would make things easier, especially for those that are submitting queries from remote sources outside the BeebleX site. I wonder if an "Advanced Search" option might be in order with the ability to check off which of the resources that you want to have it search...
