pan.p sent us a note about a new review that the TechBookReport website has of one of the latest offerings from the SAMS Publishing group - PHP in 10 Minutes.
This is a book aimed at readers wanting a fast introduction to web development using PHP 5. Like many such books, this one is aimed at the relatively inexperienced developer rather than someone wanting to switch to PHP from ASP, JSP or other language/platform. In many respects this is covering the same ground as Spring Into PHP 5, which we reviewed recently, but more on that later.
As mentioned in the review, the book it made for those just starting out. It provides a (very) brief overview of what PHP is, how it's structured, and how to use it. It's made of five sections: PHP foundations, working with data, the web environment, using other services and ending with configuring and extending PHP. There's also an appendix that covers installation.
Overall, they rate the book as a bit higher quality than the "Spring into PHP5" book from Addison Wesley, citing that they feel it just gives a better overall picture of PHP and how to use it...
