On PHP Magazine's site today, there's a new post about some PHP developers that might be taking another look at ASP - and the idea of becoming 'developer ambidextrous' appeals to them.
PHP 5's push to incorporate enterprise-caliber features (particularly with PHP 5's adoption of an object-oriented model and native SOAP/web services extensions) is having an interesting impact. Some long-time PHP developers seem to be giving Microsoft's ASP.NET another look. In a new article on OETrends.com, Vance Mc Carthy is reporting, "Far from heresy, a growing number PHP devs are actually turned on by the fact that the delta (and learning curve) between PHP and ASP.NET is getting so small, and they could become 'developer ambidextrous'." Yes, they are "mortal enemies", but this article on OpenEnterpriseTrends.com points out that there's not "a huge difference" between ASP.NET and PHP anymore. With the gap narrowing between the two languages (PHP is getting more and more standards- and structured-oriented all the time...)
