In another press release from Zend, they state that there are major corporations out there that are seriously benefiting from having Zend Certified Engineers on staff.

Zend Technologies, Inc., the PHP company, and creator of products and services supporting the development, deployment and management of PHP-based applications, today announced that, to date, over 500 PHP software developers have received Zend Certified Engineer (ZCE) status through the company's Zend PHP Certification program.

Major corporations, such as Vodafone Terenci GmbH, Veritas and McAfee are examples of enterprise customers who look to hire Zend Certified Engineers, or want to develop them internally so they have the most qualified PHP developers where it matters most - on mission critical Web application development teams.
