TechRepublic:
Making Web Apps More Feature-Rich
May 27, 2005 @ 11:27:33

In this new post from PHP Magazine today, they talk about this interview over on TechRepublic.com with Steve Holzner, author of "Spring into PHP5 on making your web applications more feature rich with PHP.

In an interview on TechRepublic, Steven Holzner discusses PHP and some of the ways it can make your Web applications more feature rich without increasing overall development difficulty. "Features like site logins, perpetual cookies, buttons, blogs, checkboxes, user tracking, and database connections are common-place aspects on some of the most basic of Web sites. Achieving these features requires the use of some sort of programming or scripting language that goes beyond simple HTML tags. This is where PHP comes into play."

Steve Holzner's new book, Spring into PHP5, explores the power of PHP through feature-specific practical examples. TechRepublic is also offering a free PDF download of Chapter 3, Handling Strings and Arrays.

Having had a chance to check this book out, it has a bit more depth to it than I thought, and gives a better overview of what PHP5 is all about. It's still a very beginner-level info kind of thing, but it's a good place to start...
