Sean Coates' Blog:
Planet-PHP Annoyances (and a solution!)
May 27, 2005 @ 11:11:06

For any of you out there that are readers of Planet-PHP.net and find that some of the news content there just doesn't interest you, this news posting over on Sean Coates' blog just might have the solution you need.

I love Planet PHP. Well, most things about it.

It's great for keeping on top of PHP news. I had a similar idea, seemingly right around the same time that Planet PHP went up, but I never got around to doing anything about it. I'm glad Toby and Chregu did.

Anyway, as great as the site is, it isn't without annoyances. One of my peeves about Planet PHP is long entries hogging the screen. Anyway, it seems they've already fixed this one. One down. One to go. There are certain blogs is one specific blog on Planet PHP that I really despise. It's nothing personal [...] I have very little patience for solutionless complaining, though, so, I did something about it. Using GreaseMonkey, and some crazy Javascript I was able to solve my problem. And in what I think is a really elegant way. My script is here: http://www.phpdoc.info/greasemonkey/planetphp-selective_blogs.user.js

The script, a neat little tool that adds checkboxes to the different blogs' boxes, can filter out some of the content on the site (if you're using GreaseMonkey with Mozilla/Firefox). It even remembers the boxes that you've checke dfor your next visit...pretty cool little script...
