ZDNet Australia:
IBM says LAMP Users Need to Grow Up
May 26, 2005 @ 11:12:41

On the ZDNet Australia there's a new article with a comment from them to LAMP users every where - "grow up".

Businesses which run on the Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/PHP/Python (LAMP) model will have to "grow up" to avoid reliability issues in future, an IBM executive said.

According to Daniel Sabbah, general manager of IBM's Rational division, LAMP -- the popular Web development stack -- works well for basic applications but lacks the ability to scale.

Same old excuses that we've all heard before - the LAMP architecture does scale well, maybe not as efficiently as other architectures, but it does its job very well. He calls it a "so-called good enough model" of structure, and that the businesses planned around it will need to "grow up" in order to survive. I know that IBM and Zend area really teaming up to try to help the PHP community as a whole, but slighting the LAMP precedent that *so* many sites out there use probably isn't the best way to go about it.
