Marco Tabini's Blog:
The PHP Job Market - Ours to Make
May 23, 2005 @ 11:11:46

Over on Marco's blog today, he shares his opinions on the current status of the PHP job market - or lack thereof.

Well, I'm back from Cancun, where I had the opportunity to give a 15-minute talk about my thoughts on the PHP job market. Some of the points I made are also part of my column from next month's issue of php|architect - and, despite the fact that I barely had time to dedicate to my talk, I've already received some interesting feedback.

The thesis of my talk is very simple: the PHP job market is what we - the community of professionals - make of it. Right now, the situation is pretty grim, simply because the market does not reflect the actual abilities of the work pool.

He states that, despite the popularity and power that PHP have to offer, things in the job markets are only now pciking up. Thankfully, there is an increasing trend for coprorate clients to realize the true potential that PHP has, not just in the number of users/coders out there for it, but also in terms of the power and flexibility (and not to mention great price) that comes along with it. I do like his suggestion though - that as members of the community we are in the unique position to be able to help the process along by supporting the initiatives that can help create a better job market. Don't have anyplace that providees a good PHP training course on your area? Make one! Help out the community and show those budding coders all of the ins and outs - sharing skills and talents can only help the community grow stronger...
