With two quick updates on the "PEAR without PEAR" project that Greg Breaver has been working on, he has two new posts on his blog with the scoop.

In the first, he mentions that the latest version of the PEAR.phar package now works with PHP 4.3.0 and newer as well as just about any version above that - including the current versions of PHP 5.

In his second post, he make a quick mention that not only are things progressing well with the PEAR.phar project, but they've also managed to drop about 200k in files from it that just weren't needed.

With this project getting cleaner and lighter all the time, it is definitely becoming a package to be looked into, especially for those not that into PEAR, but wanting to venture into its waters...
