Jackson Miller's Blog:
Increase in PHP Projects?
Apr 12, 2005 @ 13:23:36

Jackson Miller has a new post over on his blog today on a trend that's been showing itself more and more lately - the explosion of PHP projects (as well as how they're handled).

Is anyone else seeing a huge jump in the number or people looking for PHP developers? I am getting contacted about once a week from new recruiters.

Another thing I have noticed is that people looking for PHP work seem to have small budgets. There is a stigma that PHP developers have been working to overcome that labels PHP as an easy language. "Easy" doesn't translate too well to dollars.

PHP as a language is very powerful. However, for the most part (and there ARE exceptions to this), the whole PHP community seems so novice to me these days.

While it's true that with the growth of PHP into a "more mainstream language", there will be growth in the amount of applications created, I have noticed as well that this "explosion" seems to be a major movement. It's great to see that developers are really warming up to the language and are doing so much with so little (woo! Open Source!) - here's to hoping that there's much more of this kind of thing to come...

Thanks to PHP Magazine for the pointer.
