Davey Shafik has quick note about a milestone for the PHP (and PEAR) communities:

I don't know when exactly, but PEAR has now reached (and passed) the 10 Million downloads mark. As of writing it sits at 10,311,782 exactly.

This information is taken from the PEAR Statistics. Of course, this includes repeated downloads and such. But still, its an indication of things :)

This is a major accomplishment for the folks working on any part of the PEAR libraries - from the newly introduced to the old standbys. With almost 400 different packages and 210 different maintainers, PEAR is finally coming into its own. Too many developers out there seem to shy away from it for the few fallbacks that it has, but, more and more, I see code come across my screen that depends on this amazingly useful set of libraries...
