PHP Magazine:
A CEO & PHP - Love at First Sight
Feb 22, 2005 @ 13:28:39

In a new article for php magazine, Robert Peake tells you how to ensure the CEO and PHP enjoy love at first sight. Robert writes, "I firmly believe that the biggest obstacle to PHP becoming widely accepted in the Enterprise is not a lack of useful features, obscure faults within the PHP4 parser, or any other esoteric technical detail. The fault, dear coders, lies within ourselves. The massive accessibility and community support for PHP means that the PHP community is composed of programmers from diverse backgrounds, with varying understanding of best practices in team development. As a result, one of the major plagues of PHP is what I call the "spaghetti western" - spaghetti code written by cowboy coders with little or no documentation. Ever seen one?"

In this article mentioned above, Robert Peake talks about one of the major issues facing the programming community today - coders who just don't care enough. They don't worry that someday someone else might have to come along and work with their code. They don't think that maybe it will have to be expanded and changed into a new sort of app so they don't make it flexible.

In his article he mentions ways around this common pitfal, including: the use of phpDocumentor, keeping your code and HTML sepearate, and using CSS to help with this separation.
