In a new posting over on Fractured Realities (Davey Shafik's weblog) today, he talks more about the eternal struggle these days with that menace of weblogs everywhere - comment spam.

After 20+ e-mails of trackback spam today, I decided that I was sick and tired of bots spamming my blog. I'd already turned of comments several months back and until recently nothing has been seen nor heard of from spammers.

So, today I installed a couple of things: the MT-Blacklist plugin, MT-Blacklist Updater (a cron job run PHP script that reads the Blacklist RSS feed and updates my blacklist every 2hrs), and the Moveable Type plugin to implement the rel="nofollow" attribute proposed by Google.

While it seems that the other two items he mentions seem to be working, there seems to be some contention in the comments about the "nofollow" attribute Google has proposed. There's even a link to a site against the "nofollow" attribute - NoNoFollow.net.
