LinuxBusinessWeek:
PHP To Challenge J2EE and .NET
Jan 10, 2005 @ 15:45:45

New from PHP Magazine: In a new article on LinuxBusinessWeek, Maureen O' Gara is reporting that Zend Technologies Inc., the keeper of PHP, a constituent of LAMP, the multi-headed god of open source, is taking on J2EE, one of the last remaining places where Sun still shines, seeking to replace it. "According to Forrester Research, by 2006 22% of all enterprise apps will probably be written in J2EE, 13% in .NET, 56% in both and 9% in something else. Zend is aiming to be that 9% and more and whatever progress it makes is likely to come out of Sun's hide, with Zend feeding off of J2EE's overweening complexity."

In this linked article they discuss how PHP is looking to "pick a fight" with Java/J2EE and .NET in the online application world. With quite a bit of the world not looking to PHP for their enterprise applications, Zend is looking to change it in any way possible (including their latest release, the Zend Platform).
