BitFlux Blog:
About RSS Bandwidth "Abuse" Again
Dec 09, 2004 @ 13:35:32

Over on the BitFlux blog today, there's a note that any developer of any news-oriented website can relate to - RSS bandwidth abuse.

There's again a post about the rss bandwidth problems over at slashdot. This made me wonder, how "bad" it is on Planet-PHP and looked at our stats.

In December, we had until now a total of 1GB traffic, with 780MB for RSS traffic. This is not really surprising, as Planet PHP just aggregates other RSS feeds and is kind of a hub.

Since (according to the Slashdot article) RSS is becoming more in the mainstream, sites (yes, even us) are seeing more and more people using the RSS feeds instead of making it to the site. I wonder how long it will be, though, until someone figures out a way to "force" users to come to the site every once and a while...
