Andi Gutmans has noticed a disturbing trend among the weblogs out on the internet today - blog spam.

A few minutes ago I was reading George Schlossnagle's blog entry about DSOs when I suddenly noticed that many comments on his blog entry were actually spam. It's really sad that not only has spam crippled email as we knew it in the mid-90s but it's also attacking blogs now.

In response to a growing need for more security in the PHP community, Andi and a few others (including Ben Ramsey, Daniel Kushner, and Ammar Ibrahim) have formed the "PHP Security Consortium" in an effort to secure many of the popular applications (and PEAR modules) out there to make the PHP world a safer place...
