Dynamically Typed:
The IDE Divide
Nov 29, 2004 @ 14:09:13

Over on Dynamically Typed today, Harry Fuecks has an interesting link and his own commentary on what they call The IDE Divide.

Via Keith: the IDE Divide raising some interesting points regarding developers who are language oriented vs. developers who are tool oriented. While the division probably isn't so clear cut in reality, as this response points out, it is an enlightening simplification.

[...] To me it sheds alot of light on why we've got Perl / Python / PHP / Ruby(etc.) programmers on the one side (language-oriented) and C++/Java/C# on the other (tool-oriented) and both groups think the other is nuts.

Think about it - there are people out there that are all about the software and couldn't write the code behind it to make it out of a paper bag. Of course, that's definitely not saying that there aren't those out there that can code, but couldn't design an app as well either...which one are you? (Be sure to check out the comments too...)
