Never one to hide his own opinion, John Lim has a new posting over on PHPEverywhere talking about how he wants to fart when I read about the future of PHP5 and Oracle.
Andi Gutmans talks about PHP5 and Oracle. I'm sure Andi didn't realise this when he wrote the article, but the stuff he writes about shows the total lack of coordination within the PHP world when it comes to database support. Andi discussed database technologies such as PDO, Creole, SQLRelay. Well you know what - none of them work together - at all. And if we are talking about PHP's fine oci8 support, how about serious oci8 issues such as persistent connection restarts. Do we really have to wait for PDO to fix this?
If this is the wonderful future of PHP5, aren't you worried?
He definitely raises some good points that I'm not sure can be answered (without the PDO extension he mentions) as things currently stand...
