With all of the content management systems that are out there today, there are just too many of them that aren't up to par. And, according to this posting from Henri Bergius, he agrees.
Based on his experiences, Jeffrey Veen wrote an essay titled Making A Better Open Source CMS starting with the words: "Open source content management software sucks. It sucks really badly." [...] It is true that most Open Source CMSs are not that good. A major cause for that is duplication of effort. Everybody wants to build their own CMS and not improve the projects started by others, and so the wheel has been invented a huge amount of times. OSCOM seeks us to improve that by advocating collaboration and usage of common standards.
He continues on, giving several suggestions as to how (despite the fact that the world needs no more CMSs) you can make your system "suck less" such as: Make it easy to install, Separate the administration of the CMS from the editing and managing of content, Stop it with the jargon already, and Why do you insist that web site have "columns"?
Definitely an interesting read...
